The Rudd Estate in Oakville, CA, is home to a remarkable collection of 300 heritage trees that define its beauty and character. Von Greiff Tree Care was entrusted to inventory, prune, and maintain these trees, ensuring their continued health and safety while preserving the estate’s natural elegance and historical significance.
The Challenge
The scope of the project was vast, with 300 trees to assess, including several that the estate’s insurance company had flagged due to low-hanging branches and proximity to structures. Additionally, the project involved unique challenges, such as trimming Willow trees around a lake, which required the use of a boat, and performing all work without disturbing guests visiting the winery.
Did you know that maintaining your trees is cost effective?
Did you know that maintaining trees regularly is less expensive in the long run than waiting to prune them only when issues arise? Regular maintenance helps prevent larger problems, saving time and money while keeping your trees healthy and safe.
Our Approach
- Inventory: Our first step was to conduct a comprehensive inventory of all 300 trees on the estate, assessing their condition and identifying maintenance needs.
- Implement Plan: We then implemented a thorough pruning plan, removing dead trees and addressing fire mitigation by trimming low-hanging branches and clearing vegetation that could fuel a fire.
- Reaching Tall Trees: We utilized specialized equipment, including our spider crane, to safely and efficiently reach the tallest trees.
- Lake Side Challenge: For the lake-side Willows, we used a boat to access and trim the trees without damaging the surrounding environment.
To minimize disruption, we scheduled our work around the winery’s guest visits and used electric chain saws to reduce noise. Our team worked swiftly and meticulously, ensuring that the estate’s operations continued smoothly while we enhanced the safety and aesthetics of the landscape.
